8 Month Hiatus
It’s been 8 months since I last posted on my blog. During that time, I have not only grown a lot as a photographer, but I have developed new relationships with clients that have pushed my skills to a new level.
In July of last year (right when I stopped posting), I was hired as a freelance photographer for the Associated Press out of New Haven, Conn. In my time with the AP so far, I have been published in the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, and the Boston Globe, as well as most of the newspapers here in Connecticut. The photograph below was even chosen as one of the Associated Press’ “Top Domestic News Photograph of 2009″

Police in Connecticut said they found what they believe is Le's body, inside the wall of a university building where she was last seen five days earlier. (AP Photo/Thomas Cain)
I plan to start posting regularly on this blog, with updates on my career and the path my work is headed. Over the next few weeks I will update everyone with some photos that I have taken over the last 8 months. Thanks for reading and I can’t wait to show you what I have done and am doing.
derby demolition

27-year-old John Burdick, (pictured) a lifelong resident of Derby, said he remembered the building when it used to have a candy store.
Yesterday I photographed a building demolition in the town of Derby, Connecticut. I spent a good hour waiting for the work being done but as it started, I got this image. About 25 residents showed up to watch the building get knocked down. Most of them spent the time discussing their memories of the building and their thoughts on its history.
big day
I took this photo last summer of Elaine Quinn of New Haven handing a jubilant David Holland Jr. his promotion certificate at the Montessori School on Edgewood in New Haven, Conn.
foreclosure fail
I shot another foreclosure story for the New Haven Independent a week ago. The story is quite interesting and worth taking a look at. This will be my last work for the New Haven Independent for the summer, because I am starting my second internship at The New Haven Register this week!
the face of foreclosure
William Vasquez whose house was sold to the bank this past Saturday at a foreclosure auction for $53,350. I shot this story for the New Haven Independent, here is a the link to the story, as well as my other pictures.
suprising the president
On April 17th, after eight months of unhappy contract negotiations, 30 Chartwells employees on Southerns campus march into President Cheryl Norton’s office. They were met by Margaret Huda, Norton’s secretary, who informed the group Norton was out of the office. Len Nalencz, the local 217 union representative, organized the event.
“The food service workers at Southern are part of the university community and they want a fair contract. They want to be able to take care of the students,” said Nalencz.
spooner house homeless shelter - photo essay
Monday night I met with the residents of the Spooner House homeless shelter in Shelton, Conn. I had dinner with them and spoke to them about a project that I would like to do with one or more of the residents. I got an e-mail yesterday from case manager, John A. Trovarelli, who said that 6 residents of the shelter expressed interest in working with me. I am really looking forward to going forward with this personal project.
Attached is a photo I took last summer of Brad Redmond a resident of the shelter. He is pictured in the bunk beds of the old shelter, which the residents have since left. I took the photo for the New Haven Register for a story on the transition the residents were having moving from one shelter to another.
new haven independent
Had some of my work published in the New Haven Independent today. I was happy with the photos and I am excited at the possibility to do more work for such a groundbreaking newspaper.
knowing when to stop
I shot the Scientology protests for the last time this past Saturday. I have shot them for the past three months, and I have finally gotten enough images to tell the story. This photo is from yesterday, and I love the way it came out. This girl was giving me dirty looks the entire time I was photographing her–I think it comes through nicely in the image.
inside the church
This past Thursday, I had my first interview with a New Haven representative of the Church of Scientology. She and I spoke for about 45 minutes regarding the protests and the church itself. I photographed a lot of the inside of the church and will host more images as I edit them. This project is getting really interesting, I hope everyone is enjoying the progress.
