my view of graduation
This past friday, I graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with my bachelors degree in Journalism. I took my camera on stage with me to receive my diploma, in order to get the picture you see here.
The man in the picture is Selase Williams the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at Southern. He was slightly unsettled by the camera, but he laughed and shook my hand.

worst cutline ever
I found this photograph while catching up on news via nbcwashington.com. I am not sure who wrote this caption, whomever did was really not thinking.
It almost reads as if President Obama purposefully made school children cry by stealing their candy or something.
suprising the president
On April 17th, after eight months of unhappy contract negotiations, 30 Chartwells employees on Southerns campus march into President Cheryl Norton’s office. They were met by Margaret Huda, Norton’s secretary, who informed the group Norton was out of the office. Len Nalencz, the local 217 union representative, organized the event.
“The food service workers at Southern are part of the university community and they want a fair contract. They want to be able to take care of the students,” said Nalencz.

This picture was taken during Mason’s second visit to the hospital to see Scarlett. Mason and Scarlett got along really well, Mason even specifically placed a car on Scarlett’s legs so she could have one to play with.
spooner house homeless shelter - photo essay
Monday night I met with the residents of the Spooner House homeless shelter in Shelton, Conn. I had dinner with them and spoke to them about a project that I would like to do with one or more of the residents. I got an e-mail yesterday from case manager, John A. Trovarelli, who said that 6 residents of the shelter expressed interest in working with me. I am really looking forward to going forward with this personal project.
Attached is a photo I took last summer of Brad Redmond a resident of the shelter. He is pictured in the bunk beds of the old shelter, which the residents have since left. I took the photo for the New Haven Register for a story on the transition the residents were having moving from one shelter to another.
scarlett hannah sweeney
My niece Scarlett Hannah Sweeney was born this afternoon at a healthy 7lbs. Here is my favorite picture from this evening’s visit. Her big brother Mason sneaking his first look, while mom sneaks a kiss.
new haven independent
Had some of my work published in the New Haven Independent today. I was happy with the photos and I am excited at the possibility to do more work for such a groundbreaking newspaper.
knowing when to stop
I shot the Scientology protests for the last time this past Saturday. I have shot them for the past three months, and I have finally gotten enough images to tell the story. This photo is from yesterday, and I love the way it came out. This girl was giving me dirty looks the entire time I was photographing her–I think it comes through nicely in the image.
springtime football
This is the cover of the sports section this week at the Southern News. I was happy with the outcome of the section because I only covered the game for about 20 minutes and it was pretty uneventful. Southern’s football team played itself in a spring exhibition game. The coach spent most of the time on the field, and it was interesting involving him in the photographs.
This is my second to last week working at the paper here at school. I am going to miss the opportunities the paper provided me with and I am going to miss the friendships I developed while working there.
