27-year-old John Burdick, (pictured) a lifelong resident of Derby, said he remembered the building when it used to have a candy store.
Yesterday I photographed a building demolition in the town of Derby, Connecticut. I spent a good hour waiting for the work being done but as it started, I got this image. About 25 residents showed up to watch the building get knocked down. Most of them spent the time discussing their memories of the building and their thoughts on its history.

I grew up by that building and one of my friends lived in the white house in the picture. When we were little there was a convenience store there and we would always go there for candy and ice cream. Its crazy when I drive through there now - its so different.

great shot! I like how you put two completely different moods into one picture. The fierce demolition in the back contrasts with the calm, hippie essence that the guy exudes in the foreground. good stuff.
